Introduction to Systematic Reviews: Why, How, and Beyond

Systematic reviews are a critical tool in evidence-based medicine, designed to synthesize research findings and provide clear, actionable conclusions on specific biomedical questions. This session will introduce faculty and students to the fundamental principles of systematic reviews, emphasizing their role in medical research and clinical decision-making. We will explore the WHY (the importance of systematic reviews in reducing bias and improving healthcare outcomes) and the HOW (outlining the structured methodologies involved, including literature searching, study selection, data extraction, and analysis). Along the way, we will also touch on the WHO (key contributors to a systematic review), WHEN (ideal circumstances for conducting one), and WHERE (databases and resources to use). Whether you are considering conducting a systematic review or simply want to understand how to critically appraise one, this class will provide essential knowledge and practical insights to navigate this rigorous research process effectively.

Please note: This class will be held via Zoom and recorded. You will receive the Zoom link after registering and again an hour before the session.
