Introduction to Human Subjects Research
From the nature of informed consent to the difference between "research" and "quality assurance," this 60-minute workshop introduces key topics related to conducting human subjects research at Stanford. This workshop is not intended to be exhaustive and does not cover methodological issues such as determining appropriate same-sizes, but rather serves as a primer for understanding key terms, important processes, and requirements related to working with human research participants.
By the end of this workshop, learners will be able to:
- Understand what "counts" as a research project and the subsequent implications for engaging with entities such as the IRB
- Have a basic understanding of the informed consent process and other protections for potential research participants
Please note: This class will be held via Zoom and recorded. You will receive the Zoom link after registering and again an hour before the session.
