Beyond the Numbers - Understanding Research Metrics
This 60-minute session provides an introduction to different uses of research metrics, the importance of tracking the impact of research outputs, and the responsible use of research metrics. The class will introduce participants to basic issues related to research metrics so that they can understand and use them responsibly to increase the impact of their work.
Learning objectives:
- Distinguish between numerous journal/article/author metrics, including journal impact factor, altmetrics, citation counts, h-index
- Articulate the benefits and drawbacks of different research metrics
- Identify the appropriate metrics to evaluate your research impact
- Learn best practices and responsible use of research metrics
- Gain hands-on practice using some of the research metric tools available at Lane Medical Library
Please note: This class will be held via Zoom and recorded. You will receive the Zoom link after registering and again an hour before the session.
