Literature Reviews Beyond PubMed: Crafting Effective Searches in Other Databases
At Stanford, we have access to a remarkable array of research literature databases, many of which contain relevant content not included in PubMed. Unfortunately, it’s not always clear how to identify these alternate databases, much less craft effective strategies for searching them. This session is designed to help Stanford faculty, students and staff more confidently identify and explore Stanford’s rich collection of research databases. Learning objectives:
- Understand the use of search operators and syntax (Boolean operators, truncation, phrase searching, adjacency operators)
- Understand the benefits/drawbacks of search menus vs search tags
- Understand how to download results from a database to a reference management program
- Learn about the benefits of multi-database search tools like Stanford xSearch
- Learn about content overlap among databases and techniques for removing duplicates
- Learn how to identify the best databases for your research project
- Databases Included: Cochrane Library, ERIC (education), PolicyFile, ABI/Inform (business), Web of Science, and EMBASE
Please note: This class will be held via Zoom and recorded. You will receive the Zoom link after registering and again an hour before the session.
